Building on 18 Years of Impact

The Ching Tien Foundation for Women builds on the transformative legacy of Educating Girls of Rural China — EGRC.

From EGRC to Ching Tien Foundation

Ching Tien founded Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC) in 2005 as a grassroots Canadian charity working in rural western China. Her guiding belief: "Educated women have educated children."

EGRC aimed to empower women through education, advancing gender equality and reducing poverty. From 2005 to 2023, the organisation provided scholarship funding, emotional support and mentorship to young women who would otherwise have had no pathway to higher education.

The graduation rate was over 99%, and the families of all graduates were lifted out of poverty. In 2023, EGRC's mission evolved into the Ching Tien Foundation for Women — expanding to support young women from across Asia at top universities worldwide.
