Scholar Impact

Real Lives. Real Change.

Every scholarship is an investment in a woman, a family, and a community. Here are three stories of the women who have walked this path.

Huiming was the very first Ching Tien scholarship recipient β€” an EGRC alumna who had already experienced the transformative power of the organisation's work firsthand. She completed her Master of Education at UBC in 2024.

"The scholarship has been truly transformative for me β€” not just financially, but personally and intellectually. I've been immersed in a culturally diverse environment… and have been pushed to think critically about education from a global perspective."

Today she works as a Team Leader for a YMCA afterschool programme in Vancouver, and volunteers as a part-time life coach for students beginning the same journey she once took. She epitomises the Foundation's ethos: learn, lead, give back.

Jessie Huang
Masters Scholar Β· 2023

Jessie Huang

Educational Leadership & Management Β· University of Nottingham, UK  |  πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China

Jessie was the first Ching Tien Masters Scholar who was not an EGRC alumna β€” a milestone that marked the Foundation's expansion beyond its original network. She graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2024.

"When I first applied, I was filled with self-doubt β€” wondering whether I truly deserved this opportunity. Now I see that the Foundation not only gave me a scholarship, but a community and a family that helped me grow."

Since graduating, Jessie has joined the World Academy for the Future of Women in the US as an Executive Assistant β€” continuing her work in women's leadership on an international stage. Her journey from self-doubt to international leadership is precisely what the Foundation exists to enable.

Echo Nan
Undergraduate Scholar Β· 2023

Wenjing (Echo) Nan

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, China Β· Now graduate student at UBC  |  πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China

Echo joined the inaugural cohort of the Undergraduate Leadership Program in 2023, completing the four-month virtual programme and the four-week residential experience at Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC.

"The Royal Roads experience completely shifted how I see myself as a leader. I returned home with a project plan, a network, and the confidence that I could actually execute it."

Her Giving Back project brought leadership workshops to rural high school girls in Guangdong Province β€” addressing the same gap in rural China that the Foundation's predecessor, EGRC, spent 18 years working on. She is now a graduate student at UBC, continuing her journey as a changemaker from the other side of the Pacific.

Echo represents a full circle: from a rural-educated girl in China, to a leadership scholar in Canada, to someone giving back to rural girls at home β€” and now studying in the same country that supported her.

EGRC Alumni Pay It Forward

CAD $9,570

In 2026, 158 EGRC alumni came together to raise $9,570 for the Ching Tien Foundation β€” more than 18 years after many of them received support that helped them graduate from high school and university.

"Women who were once supported are now the ones doing the supporting."
